Medford Service Changes, Fall 2021
We are adding back service throughout the region following Coronavirus-related service reductions in 2020. While you may notice some changes to your trips, we are committed to getting you where you need to go.
Take Jane’s commute, for example.
Prior to the pandemic, Jane took route 326 from her home in Medford to her job in Boston—a 45-minute trip during rush hour.
In 2020, we suspended service on the 326. In the fall of 2021, we are increasing service on nearby routes 95 and 354. Jane has a few trip options, and they all get her to Boston in about 45 minutes:
- Taking the 95 bus to Sullivan Square, connecting to the Orange Line for service to downtown Boston
- Taking the 101 bus to Malden Center, then connecting to the Orange Line for service to downtown Boston
- Taking the 354 bus directly to downtown Boston
Our Plan to Bring Back Service
As Massachusetts continues to adjust to the impacts of the pandemic, the MBTA is adding back service where people need it most.
While service on the 325 and 326 bus will remain suspended, we're increasing service on other key routes in the Medford area to help people like Jane get where they need to go:
- Route 95 buses will depart every 20 minutes during rush hour, compared to every 25 minutes prior to August 29, 2021
- Route 100 buses will depart every 15 minutes during rush hour, compared to every 22 minutes prior to August 29, 2021
- Route 354 buses will depart every 20-25 minutes during rush hour, compared to every 40-45 minutes prior to August 29, 2021
And this is just one of the neighborhoods where we're making changes like this. This fall, routes across the network will be adjusted to:
- Preserve access and quality of service for transit critical communities
- Provide sufficient service for returning riders and increased travel
- Accommodate riders who are returning to in-person school or work
- Support new travel patterns and behaviors
