Holiday Service Schedules
Our routes operate on weekend schedules for most major federal and state holidays. Whatever your holiday plans are, the T can take you there.
Upcoming Holiday Schedules
Fares will be free after 9:30 PM for subway, bus, Commuter Rail, The RIDE, and ferry.
Subway will run on a Saturday schedule until 3 PM. It will then run on a weekday schedule for the remainder of the day.
Bus, Silver Line, and The RIDE will run on a Sunday schedule.
Ferry will run on the following service schedules:
- Hingham/Hull/Logan to Boston will run on a Saturday schedule.
- Charlestown Ferry will run on a weekend schedule.
- East Boston Ferry will run on a weekend schedule.
- Lynn Ferry will run on a weekend schedule.
- Winthrop/Quincy Ferry will have no service.
Commuter Rail will run on a weekend schedule. After 9:30 PM, bikes will not be allowed on board on trains.
Riders are encouraged to purchase the special $10 Holiday Pass for unlimited travel throughout the day on July 4.
The majority of the last trains of the evening will leave North Station and South Station at their advertised times between 11:30 PM and midnight. If fireworks are delayed, trains will leave up to 30 minutes after the close of the fireworks.
- The last Needham Line train will leave South Station at 10:15 PM.
- The last Greenbush Line train will depart South Station at 11:20 PM.
- The last Worcester Line and the last Newburyport Line trains will depart at 11:30 PM.
- The last train of the evening on the Newburyport/Rockport line is a Rockport train.
Subway, Bus, and The RIDE will run on a Sunday schedule.
Commuter Rail will run on a weekend schedule.
Ferry will run on the following service schedules:
- Hingham/Hull/Logan to Boston will run on a Sunday schedule.
- The direct Hingham to Boston route will have no service.
- Charlestown Ferry will run on a weekend schedule.
- East Boston Ferry will run on a weekend schedule.
- Lynn Ferry will run on a weekend schedule.
- Winthrop/Quincy Ferry will have no service.
Subway, bus, and The RIDE will run on a Saturday schedule.
Commuter Rail and ferry will run on a weekday schedule.
$10 Holiday Passes
You can buy $10 Commuter Rail tickets on select holidays.
Please note:
- Only holidays with modified service are listed above. Juneteenth and Veterans' Day do not have modified schedules—all services will operate on a regular schedule on these days.
- If we're running a weekend schedule, please be aware that routes that do not typically run on weekends will not be in service.

Paying for Your Trip
To avoid long lines at fare vending machines and ticket windows, we recommend buying MBTA tickets before your trip.
The cost of your trip and the type of pass you need depend on how long you’ll be in town and which modes of transit you’ll be using.
$10 Weekend Commuter Rail Passes are accepted for trips on all three days of federal holiday weekends.
Safety and Etiquette
Please follow these guidelines to ensure everyone’s safety and comfort while celebrating.
If you need to report an emergency, please call 911 or the Transit Police at 617-222-1212.
- Alcohol consumption is not allowed on MBTA vehicles or at stations.
- If you are wearing a backpack, remove it and hold it at your side or set it between your feet.
- Let passengers off the train before you board.
- Leave large items at home.
- MBTA Transit Police officers are available in and near stations. If you need assistance, please report directly to a uniformed official.
- If you need to report an emergency, call 911 or the Transit Police at 617-222-1212.
- You can also report emergencies anonymously with the SeeSay App on your iPhone or Android device. We monitor the app 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and you can expect a response within a few minutes.
- Transit Ambassadors wear bright red polo shirts, sweaters, or jackets with T logos and can be found at stations throughout the system.
- They can help you buy tickets and passes, figure out the best way to get to your destination, and provide real-time travel information.
- Transit Ambassadors also provide assistance during special events, system outages, and service disruptions.
