Platform Work Continues at Chelsea Commuter Rail Station

We’re building a fully accessible Commuter Rail station next to the current SL3 stop in Chelsea. The new station will provide a direct connection between the Newburyport/Rockport Line and the Silver Line.
Crews began preparing for foundation work in fall 2019. As of April 2020, we’ve:
- Finished installing, grouting, and grading mini piles for the new high-level platforms
- Installed most of the concrete pile caps to support the platform foundations
- Constructed the foundation and beams for the Track 1 platform
- Started forming the concrete canopy walls and overhangs for the Track 1 platform
We will be upgrading the rail signal system at 4 intersections in coordination with the City of Chelsea. We’re expecting a delivery of signal houses later this spring, after which we will begin replacing the railroad crossings and signal systems at Eastern Avenue, Third Street, and Everett Avenue in Chelsea, as well as Second Street in Everett.

As part of our $9.6 billion, 5-year capital investment plan, we're renovating stations, modernizing fare collection systems, upgrading services for our buses, subways, and ferries, and improving the accessibility of the entire system.
