Orange Line 30-Day Surge: Week Three Update
Updated on September 9, 2022
At the end of week three of the 30-day Orange Line closure, we’ve completed 69% of our planned work. We’ve replaced 7,280 feet of rail and 2,695 feet of full-depth track, as well as 240 Cologne-eggs rail fasteners at Tufts Medical Center to make for a smoother, safer ride.
Special trackwork at Jackson Square was completed, allowing us to remove another slow zone to get riders where they need to go faster. Signal upgrades continue between Oak Grove and Malden, and we have been running test trains between the two stations to assess our updated signals and troubleshoot any issues. As we near the end of the closure, crews are beginning to finalize projects and ready the line for a return to full revenue service with track-wide upgrades in place.
We're taking advantage of the Orange Line closure to make upgrades, perform maintenance, and clean stations as opportunities arise. We will continue to keep you updated as we begin to transition through the end phases of these projects.
Building a Better T
As part of our $9.6 billion, 5-year capital investment plan, we're renovating stations, modernizing fare collection systems, upgrading services for our buses, subways, and ferries, and improving the accessibility of the entire system.
