Why We're Doing This Work
The Longfellow Viaduct carries the Red Line from the Beacon Hill tunnel portal over Charles Circle and through Charles/MGH Station to the Boston end of the Longfellow Bridge.
The viaduct, which was built between 1911 and 1912, is historically significant—it’s listed in the Massachusetts Historical Commission’s “Inventory of Historic and Archeological Assets of the Commonwealth”.
Building a Better T
As part of our $9.6 billion, 5-year capital investment plan, we're renovating stations, modernizing fare collection systems, upgrading services for our buses, subways, and ferries, and improving the accessibility of the entire system.
